Corp Fin’s “CDIs” Become the “CFIs”!

I’m a wee bit compulsive about some small things that I find guilty pleasure in. One nice bit of news is that Corp Fin has quietly changed “Compliance and Disclosure Interpretations” to “Corporation Finance Interpretations.” Meaning that we now have “CFIs” instead of “CDIs” or “CD&Is” or “C&DIs.”

I’ve always had a pet peeve about people saying “CD&Is.” I ran a poll over a dozen years ago and the majority of people said they preferred “CDIs.” Here are those results:

– C&DIs – 7%
– CDIs – 57%
– CD&Is – 8%
– Phone Interps – 21%
– What me worry – 8%

Back then, someone told me “Both CD&I and C&DI are jargon that obscure rather than illuminate meaning. ‘Staff Interps’ is a better short-hand reference that is more consistent with the SEC’s Plain English initiative, and is easier to vocalize. Imagine you are training a new associate but in a hurry. Telling them to check the Staff Interps provides a lot more direction that ‘go to the CD&Is.’”

“CFIs” isn’t perhaps as nicely put as “Staff Interps” – but it’s better than “CDIs” and way better than “C&DIs” or “CD&Is” in my book!
