Bracebridge Young was one of the founders and a long-term CEO of the “American Society of Corporate Secretaries,” which is now called the “Society of Corporate Governance.” He was widely admired back in his heyday about 70 years ago.
For some time, the Society has given an Award in Bracebridge’s name. The Award is considered the Society’s highest honor in an effort to recognize persons who have rendered unusual or exceptional service or service consistently rendered over a period of years to our community. The Society has a list of Award winners posted harkening back to ’88. One oddity is that this declassified CIA set of letters indicates that the first-ever Award was bestowed upon the head of the CIA in 1988 – but the Society page lists James Ryan as that year’s winner.
This year’s Award winner was my dear friend, McKesson’s Jim Brashear. I’ve known Jim for decades and besides being one of the sharpest – and most tech-savvy – lawyers I know, Jim is a fantastic guy. Good people have earned this Award over the years – including many whom I consider to be friends – and I am proud to be a member of an organization that takes pains to acknowledge those among us who stand out.
